ABOUT US

our mission, history, and our team

Our Mission

It is our pleasure and purpose to provide families with beautiful, healthy, socially adjusted puppies with exceptional temperaments. We accomplish this by breeding genetically cleared and OFA certified dogs, and then lovingly home-raising their puppies with proven methods of stimulation and training at appropriate developmental stages.

Our History

Fleury Farm Doodles began in 2011 with our beloved Goldendoodles, Kitty and Dood. These two laid the foundation of our breeding program and helped us fall in love with raising puppies that were not only beautiful but also healthy, intelligent, and affectionate. After retiring Kitty and Dood in 2013, we transitioned into breeding F2 Standard Sheepadoodles, working with our exceptional pair, Ody and Nelly.

As our passion for ethical, responsible breeding grew, so did our family business. In 2019, we expanded into Fleury Farm Doodles of North Carolina and Tennessee, adding F1 Whoodles, F1b Mini Bernedoodles, and F1b Standard Sheepadoodles to our program.

Since our beginning, we’ve made it our mission to continually improve—studying genetics, temperament development, and early enrichment to ensure each puppy is given the very best start in life.

Today, we operate out of two family homes in northeastern North Carolina (Elizabeth City area) and one in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. At each location, we raise our puppies in-home and with intention. We utilize both Puppy Culture and Empowered Breeder curriculum, beginning early neurological stimulation on day three and starting house training at four weeks.

We are also proud to be an approved Good Dog Breeder, giving families extra confidence in the health, care, and ethical standards behind every puppy we place.

JAN FLEURY

Jan is the founder of Fleury Farm Doodles and still lives in the same small town in North Carolina where it all started. She and her husband raised their four children in NC, and are now blessed to have all of their children and grandchildren close by.

A lifelong animal lover, Jan has always considered dogs part of the family. That love and dedication are what inspired her to start breeding—to help other families experience the joy of a well-raised, well-loved companion. Today, she continues to pour her heart into producing healthy, happy puppies with exceptional temperaments.

BECCA JENKINS

Becca grew up in East Tennessee, where her love for animals began early on a small family farm. That passion continues today as she raises her own “mini farm” full of beloved dogs, chickens, and her bustling family. Becca and her husband are raising six wonderful children, and family life is at the heart of everything she does.

At the Tennessee location of Fleury Farm Doodles, Becca is dedicated to raising puppies with excellent health and loving temperaments. Her hands-on, family-centered approach ensures each puppy is well-socialized and nurtured from the very beginning.

SYDNEY HAGAN

Sydney lives at one of our two North Carolina locations with her husband, son, and two daughters. Having grown up surrounded by Doodles and immersed in the values of ethical, responsible breeding, Sydney has carried the Fleury Farm legacy into her own home—where she now raises dogs alongside chickens and bees.

In addition to her hands-on role in raising puppies, Sydney is also the official photographer for Fleury Farm Doodles through her business, Rustic Iris Photography. Her beautiful, heartfelt images help capture the joy and personality of each puppy, preserving memories that families will cherish forever.

BRYNN BYERS

Brynn lives in North Carolina with her wonderful husband and two sons. As a family, they love spending time at the beach, strolling through their charming downtown, and enjoying life with loved ones close by.

At Fleury Farm Doodles, Brynn plays a key role in helping potential families discover what makes our program so special. She manages our social media presence, combining beauty and information to give followers an inside look at our dogs, our values, and the care that goes into every puppy we raise.

The Critical First 12 Weeks

Some might wonder, why the first 12 weeks? Why not train and address behaviors when the puppies are older?

Research has shown (and this is explained in depth in the Puppy Culture video) that young puppies' brains are like sponges. They can absorb and process information much faster than an older dog at this young age. The best part is, the information given to them now will stay with them for a long time after.

Puppies also have very little fear during their first weeks, so new experiences are approached with curiosity. To capitalize on this, Puppy Culture instructs you to introduce various objects, locations, and experiences that they might encounter during their lifetime; always in positive ways. This teaches puppies to approach novelty with calm, curiosity rather than fear. But more on that later.

The frst 12 weeks are a crucial time for shaping a puppy into the type of dog we all want. While training done later in life may work, it takes much more time and effort and some things are almost impossible to train out of an adult dog.

Do you allow visits?

The short answer is "Yes". The long answer is that, while we do allow visits to our home, there is: 1) a limit to the number of visits allowed - we allow ONE in-person visit for Choosing Day, and ONE in-person visit on Gotcha Day; 2) there is a safety protocol which needs to be strictly adhered to when preparing for your visit (you will receive an email prior to your visit outlining all the precautionary protocols). *We do sometimes allow visits prior to Choosing Day, on a case-by-case basis.

What if your current waitlist is full or you haven't yet started an Official Waitlist for the puppy I want? How can I get on the next waitlist?

Completing the full application and submitting the $150 Application/Call Back List Fee (non-refundable and applied toward the purchase of your puppy) secures your place on our Call Back List. Families will be placed on the list in the order applications and fees are received. When one of our dams goes into heat, we will contact families on the applicable Call Back List to confirm they’re ready to move forward by submitting the $500 non-refundable (but transferable) Reservation Fee, which is also applied toward the final puppy price. This Reservation Fee will be collected only after breeding occurs and pregnancy is confirmed, securing your place on the Official Pick of the Litter list.

Please note: Buyers will have 72 hours from the time the invoice is sent to submit their $500 Reservation Fee. Failure to respond or submit payment within this timeframe may result in removal from the Call Back List. We will make multiple contact attempts before doing so.

What if I decide I'm not ready for a puppy after I'm already on an Official Pick of Litter list, or if there aren't enough puppies in the litter I'm on the Official Waitlist for?

If you are on an Official Pick of Litter list for a litter, and if there aren't enough puppies in the litter, or if the gender/coloring you specified on your application isn't available on Choosing Day, your $500 Reservation Fee, as well as the $150 Application/Call Back List Fee, will be applied toward the purchase of your future puppy . If you determine you are not ready for a puppy after the Reservation Fee has been made, and you are on an Official Pick of Litter list, you may defer to a later litter one time before the $500 Reservation Fee and Call Back Fee are forfeited.

What if there is a price increase while I am on a Call Back List waiting for a puppy?

New pricing will apply unless a $500 Reservation Fee has been paid. If a family chooses to defer to a future litter for any reason other than a shortage of puppies in their originally selected litter, the current pricing at the time of the new litter will apply.  However, if there is a puppy shortage in the litter a family is already on an Official Pick of the Litter list for, and that family is moved to a future litter, we will honor the pricing that was in place at the time their Reservation Fee was paid—even if prices have increased for the next litter.

How is it determined what order families will choose their puppy on Choosing Day?

The puppy selection process is based on the order in which full reservation fees are received. Selections begin when the pups are 5-6 weeks old.
Please note: Buyers will have 72 hours from the time the invoice is sent to submit their $500 Reservation Fee. Failure to respond or submit payment within this timeframe may result in removal from the Call Back List. We will make multiple contact attempts before doing so.
* Breeder always has option of Pick of Litter

How will I choose my puppy?

Puppies will be chosen in person or via a video call after puppies are 5-6 weeks old. The selection process/order is determined by the order applications and application fees are received, and the Official Pick of Litter list is comprised of those families who have paid the $500 Reservation Fee within 72 hours from the time the invoice is sent. Appointments will be made after the puppies are born.

Do you do any training with your Doodle puppies?

We start our puppies out right with Puppy Culture AND Empowered Breeder training. On day 3 of their lives we begin with Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction. They begin to experience a few loud noise exposures at 3 weeks. During their 4th week they are exposed to more sounds and tactile play, different spaces, as well as grooming, including nail trimming. We also begin house training with a doggy door at this age. When puppies move into their 5th week their sound and play exposure continues with puzzle toys and moving objects, as well as exposure to different people - different ages, sizes, colors and genders. When they are 6 weeks they are introduced to water play, the kennel, obstacle courses, expeditions, and more new spaces. From 7 weeks on we are busy preparing puppies for their new families and homes with go-home vet clearances with a head-to-toe physical inspection, their first vaccine, a microchip (if requested by buyer) and a fecal analysis.

Do you require that my puppy be spayed/neutered?

This is such a great question—and we’re so glad you asked!

In the past, we required that dogs purchased from Fleury Farm Doodles be spayed or neutered by 18 months of age in order for our Health Guarantee to remain valid. However, our policy has changed, and here’s why:

Recent research has shown that early spaying and neutering (before 24 months) may negatively impact a dog’s long-term health. Sex hormones play a crucial role in regulating the endocrine system by sending feedback signals to the brain to reduce the production of luteinizing hormone (LH). When reproductive organs are removed too early, this feedback loop is disrupted, potentially leading to elevated LH levels—something that can affect multiple body systems and contribute to various health issues.

Because of these findings, we now recommend delaying traditional spaying/neutering until your puppy is at least 24 months old. We also encourage our families to discuss hormone-sparing sterilization options with their veterinarians. These alternatives offer the benefits of sterilization while preserving hormonal balance.

Our Current Policy

Yes, we do still have a Spay/Neuter Contract, but we now require that:

  • Traditional spay/neuter must be delayed until after 24 months of age.
  • Spaying or neutering before 24 months will void our Health Guarantee.
  • Hormone-sparing sterilizations (such as ovary-sparing spay or vasectomy) may be done at any age and do not void the guarantee.

As always, we ask our families to be responsible pet owners:

  • If you have an intact female, take appropriate precautions during heat cycles to avoid accidental breeding.
  • If you have an intact male, keep him away from females in heat until he is neutered (after 24 months) or has received a hormone-sparing vasectomy

Do you give Breeding Rights?

No, we do not give Breeding Rights.

Will my puppy receive vaccinations?

Puppies will be given deworming medicine at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks. Puppies are given the first dose of a 5-way vaccine between 6-8 weeks. This is a 3 series vaccine which you will likely continue with your vet 3-4 weeks apart. No rabies vaccine will be given by our vet because it should not be given until the age of 16 weeks. Please take some time to watch this YouTube video by Dr. Karen Becker for more information about vaccines, which ones to give, and when.

Do you ship puppies?

No, we do not ship our puppies. However, in some cases, we may offer hand delivery of your puppy for an additional fee, or connect you with a pet transporter who has delivered puppies for us in the past.

What sizes are your Bernedoodles, Goldendoodles, Sheepadoodles and Whoodles?

At Fleury Farm Doodles, we’ve worked hard to create consistency and clarity in how we label the sizes of our puppies. We understand how frustrating it can be for families searching for a specific size—only to discover that a so-called “Mini” Doodle is expected to weigh 50 lbs full grown.

Because there is no official governing organization that standardizes size classifications for Doodles, breeders often use their own terminology. To bring more transparency to the process, we’ve chosen to align our size ranges more closely with AKC Poodle classifications, since the Poodle is the common ancestor in all Doodle mixes.

However, we’ve adjusted these ranges upward by 10–15 lbs—particularly for Bernedoodles and Sheepadoodles—to reflect the naturally heavier build of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Old English Sheepdogs compared to Standard Poodles (which are similar in height but often leaner in structure).

For example, Wheaten Terriers fall most naturally into the “Moyen” or Small Standard category, based on weight.

This is how Fleury Farm Doodles classifies our Doodle sizes:

  • Large Standard: Over 75 lbs

  • Standard: 50-75 lbs

  • Moyen (small standard): 30-50 lbs

  • Mini: 15-30 lbs

  • Micro Mini: Under 15 lbs
